paragraph{Gateway to server level:} The gateway is usually a much more capable computing device than the sensor. Therefore, it can work with a reliable network connection. Here the selection of the communication protocol does not depend on the capabilities of the device, but it depends on the QoS requirements such as security, availability or reliability. Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP) can be used at this level as the devices are not limited by the power consumption.

paragraph{Server to server level:} Within the secure datacenter, requirements such as integration with existing applications, high throughput,
high availability, recoverability and ease of deployment might be the critical decision factors. An example would be, a climate service passing messages to the news service. Here interoperability is important, therefore, AMQP or HTTP can be used.
