Dear Mr. Kohler,
I was recently deferred for the 2016-2017 school year, and I am writing to express my continued interest in the University of Pennsylvania. I visited many schools during my college search, and Penn appeared to be a perfect match for my interests and aspirations with a world-class practical business education in the Wharton School, the ability to pursue my interests in computer science & political science in the other schools, and a dynamic and supportive university community. Spending a few weeks at Penn over the summer only helped to solidify my decision.
I also wanted to inform you that since I submitted my Early Decision application, I received a couple more pieces of information that I hope will strengthen my application. The following has occurred since:
I recently completed Math 9: Programming for Numerical Analysis at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in which I received an A (95%) with an A (94%) on the final exam. The median final exam score for the course was a C (75%) and the mean was a C- (71%). I am also currently enrolled in Math 4: Economic Mathematics (a blend of Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Economic Principles) for the Winter Quarter at UCI.
In addition to my dedicated involvement with my school’s Sailing Team and Future Business Leaders of America club, I am the second person ever from my school’s Speech & Debate Team to have received the National Speech & Debate Association’s Honor Society Seal of Excellence of over 500 of my current teammates and team alumni. In addition to this, in November, I received my third ‘Best Speaker’s Gavel’ in the Junior State of America’s Fall State convention, one with over 400 competitors.
I have reached more than 250 hours of community service with the National Honor Society. This milestone is a result mainly comprised of extensive peer tutoring and volunteer work with various charity that aid the needy over the past few years.
Because I am only enrolled in a few high school courses this year, I’ve decided to take some of the Wharton School’s online courses. Thus far, I have completed the Fundamentals of Quantitative Modeling (A+), Introduction to Spreadsheets and Modeling (A-), Modeling Risk and Realities (A), and Decision-Making and Scenarios (A), and I am currently pursuing the Wharton Business and Financial Modeling Capstone. I have also completed Microsoft’s Programming with R for Data Science course via EdX.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration. If you have any further questions, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.
